Description

The course traces the development of German culture from the Enlightenment to the present day. Selected texts will be used to illustrate the development of literature, broader intellectual issues and aesthetics, and their relationship to social, political and economic processes. By providing an insight into the forces that have shaped the development of German culture, the course enhances not just the students' historical knowledge but also their ability to understand and analyse contemporary (German) culture.
